“Use one of Google’s AI tools to create a digital artifact to showcase who you are and what you love to do, creatively”
i’m jae. i’m an art director, and am most definitely not a programmer. i’ve got a bit of experience with html and css, but if you asked me to code something on the spot i’d be lost.
but as an art director, when i’m hit with an idea, something i can so clearly visualize, i make it my mission to see it through. and there are a lot of cases where that means expanding my creative toolset, no matter how absurd the idea might be. but that’s a good thing, one of the best parts about this industry is constantly learning and diversifying my skills.
so i’ll be honest, when i thought to myself “hey wouldn’t it be cool to put the otamatone, the best musical instrument of all time, on my website?” i didn’t know entirely what i was signing up for. but that’s part of the fun.
using Google’s AI Studio, i “vibe-coded” a functional otamatone, playable directly on the browser, no downloads, ads, or anything else that would obstruct you from enjoying the heavenly sounds of the synthesizer. the code was created through a long series of commands to the AI, usually multiple iterations of the same command in the process of making the visuals their best, as well as direct manipulations to the source by me for precise location/spacing once elements were created. primary focus after visuals was ui/ux design and making it more than just a simple synthesizer without getting too complicated and losing sight of the core idea. the visuals are vectors created by me with the svg code directly uploaded to the AI, with copyright free audio sourced online. hosted on Versel and Github for personal website integration using iframes.
tl;dr: i’m jae and i like pushing ideas to their full potential, and if that means using AI to code a functional online instrument, then i’ll do it, sounds fun
